Debra Thompson Contributes to AICPA Special Report on Litigation

Debra Thompson
Debra Thompson
Debra Thompson, valuation and forensic services principal with LarsonAllen, recently served as the litigation process task force chair for the AICPA Forensic and Litigation Services Committee. As chair, she was responsible for assembling the team that researched and drafted pertinent information about the litigation process for CPA practitioners.

In order to accomplish its goals, the project was split into Special Report 09-1 and an update of Practice Aid 93-4: Providing Litigation Services. Thompson says Special Report 09-1: Introduction to Civil Litigation Services “focuses on civil litigation in the U.S. federal court system and provides an overview of the process from the initial dispute phase to the settlement or resolution of a case,” Whereas, the update of Practice Aid 93-4, which will be released later this year, details the role of the practitioner as expert witness, consultant, or other roles he or she may be retained to perform.

Since the AICPA, the national oversight body for CPAs, has added the designation of certified in financial forensics (CFF), the special report and practice aid serve as additional guidance for these practitioners.

The full special report is available to AICPA section members, but you can view the table of contents.
