Middleton Burns & Davis PC Joins LarsonAllen in Dallas, Will Become CliftonLarsonAllen

DALLAS—December 1, 2011—Dallas accounting firm Middleton Burns & Davis, PC (MBD) joined LarsonAllen LLP on November 1, 2011, according to Paul Parker, MBD’s managing director. MBD will operate under its current name until January 2, 2012, when Clifton Gunderson will merge with LarsonAllen to form the new firm of CliftonLarsonAllen (CLA). MBD will then assume the CLA name and brand.

“LarsonAllen is growing its practice in Dallas, and MBD has had a strong foothold here for more than 63 years. Our local connections and history of client relationships can help substantially further those efforts. In return, together we can bring MBD’s clients and people the opportunities more readily available from a national firm,” says Parker.

He notes that MBD has always kept pace with changes in the accounting industry so that clients could remain competitive and compliant, and joining with LarsonAllen accelerates those strides. “LarsonAllen—and ultimately CliftonLarsonAllen—can put more resources at our fingertips almost immediately. We can seamlessly heighten and expand our services, even as the regulatory environment rapidly changes all around us.” Parker says that his people can pursue more diverse career options at CLA and draw from the larger pool of experienced professionals. “Bringing such talented people together will have a powerful impact on our clients.”

MBD adds 20 people to LarsonAllen’s local team, including four partners and 12 CPAs. It was founded in 1948 and has primarily served owner-managed businesses and high net-worth families with trust and estate planning, audit, tax, and outsourced compliance services. MBD’s clients have typically fallen into the privately held manufacturing, distribution, and health care industries, as well as the nonprofit sector.

LarsonAllen is a national top-20 CPA firm with more than 300 principals, approximately 1,800 people, and more than 45 locations across the country. The firm’s industry specialization enables it to consult more deeply with clients in health care, nonprofit and government, manufacturing and distribution, banking and credit unions, construction, real estate, dealerships, and agriculture, among others. Merging with Clifton Gunderson in 2012 will place the combined firm among the country’s top 10—and one of the very few firms of that size to focus primarily on privately held businesses and their owners.

Brent Terhaar, principal-in-charge in LarsonAllen’s Dallas office, says that MBD’s compatibility with CliftonLarsonAllen’s commitment to entrepreneurs and community nonprofits makes it an ideal fit. “MBD has had a special talent for building relationships with job-generating organizations and their leaders. Their people will be essential in bringing CLA’s pledge to this group vividly to life.”
