MINNEAPOLIS—June 1, 2010—Karen Gries, principal with LarsonAllen, has been named to the IRS Advisory Committee on Tax Exempt and Government Entities (ACT) for the 2010-2012 term. The committee consists of external stakeholders who represent the tax-exempt community.

“This is a great opportunity to impact the tax-exempt community by providing feedback to the IRS, in addition to gaining knowledge and insight, which will benefit our clients across the nation,” says Gries. “This will ensure our clients are receiving the most current information and noticeably different service.”

Along with providing feedback on various issues, the committee also performs a research and development project each year. Previous topics include international grantmaking, exemption applications, tax compliance, Form 990, and more.

As a principal with LarsonAllen, Gries serves a wide variety of 501(c) organizations including charities, social welfare groups, business leagues, associations, credit unions, health care providers, and religious organizations. She provides planning and reporting of unrelated business income, intermediate-sanction analysis and application, and corporate tax compliance review services. Gries is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), the Minnesota Society of Certified Public Accountants (MNCPA), and the Nonprofit Financial Group (NFG). She is a frequent speaker at various CPA society events and conferences.
