LarsonAllen Promotes Six New Principals

MINNEAPOLIS—November 29, 2011—Gordon Viere, chief executive officer of LarsonAllen LLP (LarsonAllen), is pleased to announce six new principals, effective November 1.

Ben Aase has been promoted to principal with LarsonAllen. Aase leads the firm’s nonprofit and government consulting practice, developing and delivering strategic, financial, and operational consulting solutions to a variety of exempt organizations. He has more than 11 years of experience providing advisory services to nonprofit managers, executives, and board members. Aase is a founding member of the Minneapolis chapter of Net Impact and is the board treasurer of the Givens Foundation for African American Literature. He received his bachelor’s degree from Colorado College and his master’s degree in business from the Carlson School of Management at the University of Minnesota.

Matthew Barnette has been promoted to principal with LarsonAllen. Barnette has more than eight years of experience providing accounting and auditing services to manufacturing and distribution clients. He has coordinated several multinational audits requiring international financial reporting standards (IFRS) consolidation, and assist clients with due diligence needs. He serves on the board of Lifespan, an organization dedicated to transforming the lives of people with disabilities. Barnette is a member of the Association for Corporate Growth (ACG), the British American Business Council of North Carolina (BABC), the North Carolina Association of Certified Public Accountants (NCACPA), and the American Society of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA). Barnette earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration and a master’s degree in accounting from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Tyler Hess has been promoted to principal with LarsonAllen. Hess has more than 10 years of experience providing tax accounting for closely-held clients in the professional services, retail, and manufacturing and distribution industries. He acts as the primary tax advisor for numerous businesses and has extensive experience in preparation/review of business and individual tax returns. Previously, Hess served as a senior tax associate at Eide Bailly. Hess graduated from Southwest Minnesota State University with a bachelor’s degree in accounting, and from the University of Minnesota’s Carlson School of Management with a master’s in business taxation (MBT). Tyler is a member of American Society of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and the Minnesota Society of Certified Public Accountant (MNCPA).

Maria Morales has been promoted to principal with LarsonAllen. Morales has been in public accounting for ten years, serving public and private companies in industries such as manufacturing, third-party administrative services, software, health care, biotechnologies, and employee benefits. Previously, Morales worked in private accounting in the aeronautical industry. She is one of the founding board members of Tampa’s Association of Latino Professionals in Finance and Accounting (ALPFA) chapter, and currently co-chairs the women of ALPFA committee. Morales also serves on the board of the Tampa Bay Technology Forum (TBTF), and is passionate about initiatives that focus on the advancement, retention, and empowerment of female professionals. She heads the recruiting efforts for LarsonAllen’s Tampa, Florida, location, and received both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in accounting from the University of South Florida. Morales is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and the Florida Institute of Certified Public Accountants (FICPA).

Jonathan Olson has been promoted to principal with LarsonAllen. Olson brings more than 12 years of experience serving the tax, accounting, and consulting needs of privately held businesses and their owners. He specializes in the construction and real estate industries, assisting clients with structuring their activities and operations in the most tax efficient manner. Olson is a member of LarsonAllen’s watchdog group, which focuses on informing clients and industry professionals of current trends within the construction and real estate industry. Olson is also a member of the firm’s tax advisors update training team, which delivers tax updates to other LarsonAllen offices. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and the Minnesota Society of Certified Public Accountants (MNCPA). Olson holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Bemidji State University and a law degree from William Mitchell College of Law, both in Minnesota.

Josh Wilks has been promoted to principal with LarsonAllen. Wilks has 10 years of experience in public accounting serving the needs of health care entities. Wilks specializes in hospital and health system assurance services including audit, tax, and Medicare and Medicaid reimbursement. He serves as the primary advisor for various hospitals and health systems across the country. In 2005 Wilks and his family relocated from Minneapolis to St. Louis where he leads the hospital and health system initiatives in the region. Wilks is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), the Missouri Society of Certified Public Accountants (MOCPA), and is a board member of the Show-Me Chapter of the Health Care Financial Management Association (HCFMA). Wilks graduated from the University of Northern Iowa with degrees in business and accounting.
