John Reed Gives Contractors Tools to Boost Their Business

FORT MYERS, Florida—December 20, 2011—John Reed is the recipient of two awards for his advocacy work to teach construction contractors about the importance of obtaining surety bonds. Surety bonds give contractors’ customers assurance that their project will be completed and that subcontractors and materials will be paid. The ability to provide surety bonds can help contractors secure more business.

The Surety Information Office gave the Gold Award for Excellence in Surety Bond Promotion to Reed for conducting outreach activities that promote surety bonds in the construction industry. Reed also received the advocacy award for his involvement in other activities to support surety bonds.

“The ability to get surety bonds is critical to contractors, especially in this economy. If we can teach them how to enhance their opportunity to obtain surety bonds, we’re giving them a better chance to get more work and keep them in business,” says Reed, a LarsonAllen construction and real estate principal. “It’s also nice to be recognized as a leader in surety bond education from an accounting perspective. No other certified public accountant (CPA) received this award in Florida this year.”

Reed spearheaded a program to offer seminars about the basics of surety bonds to contractors throughout Florida. He also co-taught a class about surety bonds for the Construction Management Development Program at the University of South Florida.

Reed is a Certified Construction Industry Financial Professional (CCIFP), a Certified Specialist in Estate Planning (CSEP), a Certified Information Technology Professional (CITP), and a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA). He received his master’s degree in accounting from Nova University and his bachelor’s degree from the University of Maryland.
