July Deadline for Wisconsin Prevailing Wage Payroll Reports

On May 20, 2010, Dane County Circuit Court Judge John Markson denied the request for an injunction to prevent the State of Wisconsin from collecting prevailing wage payroll reports. However, after meetings with various industry groups, the Department of Workforce Development (DWD) reduced the number of data fields from 50 to 34.
The deadline for reporting is 45 days after the court decision, so contractors have until the first week of July to submit prevailing wage payroll reports for all work performed since January 1, 2010. These reports must be submitted electronically on the DWD’s website. Sending the reports via email, mail, or fax is not acceptable. If contractors have submitted reports using the original 50 data fields, no additional reporting is required.
Also, contractors will now have to submit their monthly reports to the State of Wisconsin within seven days of month end.
“Unfortunately, this is an additional reporting burden at a time when contractors are already struggling,” says Craig Olsen, a LarsonAllen construction principal.
The DWD website provides full details on the reporting requirements and provides reporting templates for submitting the prevailing wage reports. The DWD’s Prevailing Wage page provides general information.
Because the July 4 deadline is approaching, contractors must quickly make plans to work with their software provider, payroll provider, or CPA to develop a method to efficiently create the spreadsheets necessary to submit their reports.
